On April 2, 2025, a tragic incident at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, resulted in the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. Karmelo Anthony, also 17, is charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing Metcalf during an altercation.
The confrontation reportedly began when Metcalf asked Anthony to move from his team's tent, leading to a physical dispute that ended with Anthony stabbing Metcalf in the chest. Anthony was arrested at the scene and initially held on a $1 million bond. On April 14, a Collin County judge reduced his bond to $250,000, allowing his release under house arrest with electronic monitoring. Due to his age, Anthony is not eligible for the death penalty or life without parole if convicted.
